MED-Solar (Machrek Energy Development-Solar) is targeting the countries of the Mediterranean area which face a difficulties in energy sector: the increase in the energy price and the weakness of the electrical grid (impossibility of having increase in the power supply, interruptions, etc.), which reduces the security of supply in critical facilities such as hospitals and schools as well as the proper development of the small and medium size industries.
Instead of using exclusively generator, the MEDSOLAR project proposes a solution to reduce the use of this polluting and expensive mean by installing a solar PV system with a transient storage associated to the generators. When the grid is available, the PV energy is injected to grid. In case of grid interruption, the back-up is guaranteed by the PV system coupled with generator if the PV generation is not enough. A transient storage system will secure the continuity of the supply for very short-term variations of generation or the time that the generator switches on.
MED-Solar Focused on the promotion and implementation of innovative technologies and know-how transfer in the field of solar energy, MED-Solar aims to improve the energy situation in Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. The project is coordinated by a Trama TecnoAmbiental S.L., a Spanish company specialized in renewable energies. The partnership is composed of the following organizations:
• Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain, Cataluña)
• Solartys (Spain, Cataluña)
• French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (France, Rhône-Alpes)
• Energy Research Center, An-Najah University (Palestine)
• United Nations Development Programme Lebanon (Lebanon)
• National Energy Research Center (Jordan, Amman)
